Interesting to see how eye-witnesses can differ about the same event: Did Hitler fire the shot into the ceiling, or his companion? -- David Irving diary

Worked all morning on Göring drafting, then cycled to Elephant ["White Elephant Court", i.e. No.23 Clifton Court, NW8] and typed final chapter on 1923 Putsch, etc. Taking shape nicely, but I returned at 7:30 p.m. and began reading T84 rolls 1 and 2, the transcript of the Hitler Trial from the Munich Amtsgericht files. Interesting material, and I shall revise the chapter immediately in some places. Good eye-witness material on "Hauptmann Göhring." […] Read the 1924 Hitler Trial microfilm until 1 a.m., then bed.

A good start to the chapter on Göring's drug addiction. […] I continued reading Hitler Trial. More good material. Until 1 a.m., then bed.

Continued on Trial transcript until 9 a.m. then cycled to Elephant as washing machine repairer expected before lunch.

Worked on Hitler Trial films until 11 p.m.

August 30, 1985 (Friday)
London

Worked all afternoon at White Elephant on Göring. Slowing down slightly in approach to Machtergreifung. Also I am ploughing through the Hitler Trial 1924 every evening. Interesting to see how eye-witnesses can differ about the same event: Did Hitler fire the shot into the ceiling, or his companion? They are emphatic both ways.

As I switched off the microfilm reader at midnight, P. came.
